At Banksia Tech, our story starts with our co-founder and resident occupational therapist Effie. With a background of over 10 years’ experience working alongside people with neurological conditions, Effie has witnessed firsthand the life-changing impact of rehabilitation.

One of the greatest and long-term challenges in recovery is regaining hand and arm function, a vital component for independent living and quality of life. Effie has dedicated her career to pioneering innovative and evidence-based hand and arm therapies. She spreads her time between delivering hands-on clinic based rehab, and training clinicians across Australia and internationally in best-practice rehabilitation approaches.

As technology and neuroscience have evolved, so has the evidence for using robotic-assisted devices in neuro rehab. Despite this, implementation in Australia has been relatively slow, partly due to access and affordability.

With this in mind, 2 years ago, Effie set out on a mission to source the best advanced technologies in neurological rehabilitation. The aim of the mission was to find (and bring home) effective, affordable technology for assisting recovery in neurological conditions, so that her clients could gain access to innovative and evidence-based products to support their recovery.

This journey led Effie around the world, trialing devices from Australia, Europe, America and Asia, and what began as one occupational therapist’s passion project, ultimately resulted in the establishment of Banksia Tech.

Expanding the mission to ensure ALL Australians have access to the best technology for recovery, Banksia Tech has grown into a company powered by a team of highly-skilled, forward thinking individuals committed to reimagining rehabilitation.
